Coronavirus: Remdesivir Injection the 'most promising' COVID-19 treatment

Image
As scientists race to develop vaccines and treatments for coronavirus there's one drug that's been getting a lot of attention the drug is 'Remdesivir' The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted emergency use authorisation to use it to treat the coronavirus  Remdesivir is an antiviral drug that was originally meant to fight the Ebola virus. But it was so ineffective that it was eventually shelved. However, despite its initial failure, remdesivir was later shown to be effective against both SARS (Severe acute respiratory syndrome) and MERS (Middle East respiratory syndrome) and now being tested in clinical trials as potential treatment against coronavirus COVID-19.  Remdesivir is currently the word's best hope for treating coronavirus COVID-19. But it's not a silver bullet. Remdesivir doesn't cure coronavirus. But the experimental drug, which may speed up recovery from a coronavirus infection, is currently the best treatment we have against a COVID-19 ...

Testing for diseases is important because in most cases the quicker you can diagnose someone better their chance of recovery. This is the particular case for cancer where early detection and accurate diagnosis can ensure people are given the most effective treatment as quickly as possible. For coronavirus, testing serves to identify people who are infected or who have been infected with the virus in past. There are following types of test for coronavirus A PCR swab test to find out whether you currently have coronavirus An antibody blood test to find out whether you have previously had coronavirus and may have some degree of immunity The New Saliva test    PCR Swab test:  PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) in this test a swab of the nose or thorat is taken and sent to the lab. This test used to check virus genetic material. PCR is also widely used test to detect genetic material from cancer cells obtained from a biopsy.  While a PCR test for diseases such as coronavirus...

Coronavirus vaccine: when will we have?

Image
Vaccines: How long it usually takes to make them  Vaccines typically take about 10 to 15 years to develop. That's in part because any new medical treatment needs to be thoroughly tested for safety before it can be distributed to millions or billions of people.  The mumps vaccine took four years, which is widely considered the fastest vaccine approval in the history of infectious disease. Biggest vaccine hunt in history  Never before has the hunt for vaccine been so massive in scale and Speed. As of there are more than 115 potential COVID-19 vaccine candidates in different countries at various stages of development. However, the world health organization (W.H.O.) has identified 7-8 of these vaccine as frontrunners in reasearch and trails. So how far is india from a successful vaccine and what are the chances of getting in our country if one of this vaccine become successful?  What is happening with coronavirus vaccine development  There are currently over 100 vac...

Boosting immune system to fight the coronavirus

In the midst of a global pandemic, our bodies immune system are working wonders to protect us from bugs and virus. But how will it protect us from new virus COVID-19 which is responsible for corona disease. Immunity against coronavirus COVID-19 As coronavirus COVID-19 strain is so new it's not yet known whether our bodies will build up an immunity to the virus. We don't know enough about interaction between the current coronavirus and our immune system to definitely say if we would develop a protective immune memory response and if we do we don't know if the memory response is long lived. Nor do we know whether the virus will mutate and evade that protec...

Immune system's fight against coronavirus ( COVID-19)

Image
Immune system's fight against the coronavirus  A central player in the fight against the coronavirus is our immune system. It protect us against the invader and can even be helpful for its therapy. How does our immune system react to coronavirus  Like other virus the coronavirus is not much more than a shell around genetic material and a few protein. To replicate, it needs a host in the form of living cell. Once infected, this cell does what the virus commands it to do copy information, assemble it, release it. But this doesn't go unnoticed. Within a few minutes, the body immune defense system intervenes with its innate response. Granulocytes, scavenger cells and killer cells from the blood and lymphatic system stream in to fight the virus. They are supported by numerous plasma proteins that either act as messengers or help to destroy the virus  When coronavirus enters . A certain point, however the host response is so strong that it's it's effect can be counterproducti...
