Is there a relationship between Corona and 5G Network?

Misinformation can influence usersYou’ve probably heard of 5G, the superfast internet technology that recently arrived in the India. It promises quicker downloads and browsing speeds with the latest wave of smartphones being able to connect to 5G networks.

It’s also very likely you’ve come across some  news that linking 5G to the spread of coronavirus. TikTok videos from accounts with millions of followings have received thousands of views and a number of high-profile celebrities have been sharing conspiracy theories about 5G on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook

Many of those sharing the post are pushing a conspiracy theory claiming that 5G - which is used in mobile phone networks and relies on signals is somehow responsible for coronavirus COVID 19 

On social media these groups has shared a number of erroneous posts, claiming 5G is the culprit behind a virus that has infected people worldwide.

They claim:

  • 5G weakens the immune system, making us more vulnerable to catching the virus
  • The virus can be transmitted through 5G networks
  • 5G  network experiments have been linked to the death of many birds that have been found lying dead

The year 2020 brought a COVID-19 pandemic as well as a pandemic of misinformation.

Now debunking the claims they made  

The theories center on three details.

  • The primary is that Wuhan was the primary city in China to roll out 5G. It’s also believed that COVID-19 originated in Wuhan. Correlation though, doesn't equal causation. Wuhan was one among 16 cities to debut 5G at roughly an equivalent time. None of the others have reported abnormally high instances of the virus.
  • The second point is that 5G damages the system , leaving immunocompromised individuals highly vulnerable to the disease — and immunocompromised, during this case, would mean anyone exposed to 5G. But there’s no evidence to support the claim that 5G weakens the human immune system . In fact, there’s little evidence to support the claim that 5G adversely affects the health of humans in the least
  • 5G experiments have been linked to the death of many birds that have been found lying dead Ornithologists say birds may be killed over the course of a few years. People's fear of 5G technology is rational. Such technology does emit radiation, albeit it's at low levels. But 5G isn't all that different from 4G, and it certainly doesn't cause COVID-19 despite such rumours having spread rapidly across the world .
